Join us at our rehearsals…
All of these songs were recorded during rehearsal on our phones, warts and all. Not the best quality recording but we hope you can hear the fun we are having!
Swing Brother Swing – Our first attempt at this song. Definitely adding it to the set list. It could really swing!
Minnie the Moocher – First take of this track in rehearsal recorded on phone. It is a funeral lament about Minnie’s fall for a bad man who introduces her to cocaine and opium. Much of the song is about her opium hallucinations. The story doesn’t end well.
The Jungle Book – Always a crow pleaser (that was meant to say crowd-pleaser, but I like the idea of crows dancing along so I’ve left it). Check out Rich’s great drumming on the bongos…
I Got Rhythm – One of the many great George and Ira Gershwin tunes. Apparently Ira found it really hard to write lyrics that did justice to the melody until he hit upon the idea of hardly any of the lines rhyming. Why does that work so well?
Mac the Knife – This tune changes key 6 times which our pianist found a bit daunting but surprisingly it turned out to be great fun to learn and play!
